What exactly is Integrative
Medicine?
A medical model that combines conventional Western
medicine with natural or alternative treatments. While some
therapies are considered unconventional, a
guiding principle within Integrative Medicine is to use therapies that have
high quality evidence to support them. These alternative therapies are used
WITH conventional or mainstream medicine, not as replacements. We like to say that we are combining the best
of both worlds (East and West, Natural and Modern) in order to obtain the best results and longest healthspan for
our patients. The idea is a whole-pet
approach, designed to treat the pet rather than just a single disease or
problem.
Dr. Nell will now be practicing an Integrative
Approach when treating all of her patients.
She has completed intense
coursework and training in order to share these special therapies safely with
you and your pets. This requires her to spend additional time in each
appointment so that she may discuss all available Conventional and Alternative
options with you, develop an effective treatment plan, and perform combined
treatments that are needed to benefit your pet.
Dr. Preston will continue to see patients using a
conventional approach – he will
also evaluate and treat the patient as a whole pet, but will refer patients to
Dr. Nell for Integrative Consults.
